Dragon dance on Wuyi Mountain
www.chinanews.cn 2006-02-08 16:57:33
A folk dragon dance team were performing dragon dance in front of a local
shop on Wuyi Mountain on the evening of Feb. 7. Before the Lantern
Festival on the 15th day in the Chinese lunar calendar, native villagers
in Fujian's Wuyi Mountain enjoy the tradition of organizing dragon dance
teams to start a "dragon dance tour" and raise funds in local shops and
households. Shop owners and housemasters should light up firecrackers to
"welcome the dragon" and send out red envelops with lucky money inside.
The funds raised will be used for commonweal such as rural highway
construction.
