Hang up lanterns and drink wine
www.chinanews.cn 2006-02-07 16:37:07
Lanterns were selling hot in the bazaar of Chenghuang Town in Guangxi's
Xingye County on Feb. 6, the ninth day of this Chinese New Year. Folks in
many places of Guangxi follow the custom of hanging up lanterns and
drinking wine on Jan. 10th in the lunar calendar. It is said that on that
day, any household who had a new-born boy in the previous year should
hang up lanterns in the sacrifice site for the god of the land, the
ancestral temple and the main hall of the house. Lanterns in the
sacrifice site and the main hall should be burned on Jan. 16th in the
lunar calendar, which are called "fallen lanterns".
