Tian Hezhong, a 78-year-old resident living in Dongxiang No.1 Street,
Baixiang Town, Qinyang City, Henan Province, drank "safe water" for the
first time on January 1, 2006. Underground water in Qinyang City's 209
villages contains above-standard fluorine and underground water in 30
villages has above-standard salt. A total of 161,000 villagers could not
get safe drinking water. The Qinyang Municipal Government regards safe
drinking water as one of the projects to solidly benefit the masses. By
the end of 2005, the city has drilled ten deepwater wells and safe
drinking water is available for 10,191 residents at present.
