www.chinanews.cn 2005-11-22 14:30:06
A huge suona (a trumpet like instrument with reeds) was produced and
preserved at Zhu Zaiyu memorial in Henan's Qinyang City to commemorate
Zhu Zaiyu (1536-1610?), a prince and great musician in the Ming Dynasty
(1368-1644), for his contribution to the development of wind and string
instruments. It is 5 meters in length and 1.7 meters in diameter at the
mouth and weighs more than 200 kilograms. Qinyang is cited as the
hometown of suona in China. The photo is taken on Nov. 21.
